How did you experience storytelling as a kid?

Mohsine Touel:

As a little kid living in the magical city of Marrakech in a faraway neighborhood where I inhaled the first breeze of Autumn, heard the first sounds of life, and watched the first beautiful smile drawn on my mother's face, I learned the first lessons in life from the stories told by my mother. My mother is illiterate, but she managed to raise me well telling me stories memorized from her father who was a "fqih" with great reputation teaching kids in the village about Quran, prophets, and ethics. The merchant "Bouderbala" is the story that lives like an ear worm in my head as I remember how my mother used to embrace me, caress me, and tell me this story with her angelic voice. This traditional story revolves around an arrogant merchant who was not helpful to anyone, as his life turned upside down and happened to be poor, he realized how many lives he could have saved when he was rich. This story instilled in me the sense of empathy towards people and encouraged me to help when I can.

Brahim Daldali:
I experienced it as any normal kid in Morocco. A gathering around a fire pit and our mother would keep telling us stories about scary creatures and wise animals. These stories were the only means of entertainment for me because I come from a poor family, we did not have any other entertainment except of stories by which we travel and experience the world from the warmth and simplicity of our house.

Zouhair:
I surprisingly did not have a deep connection with storytelling in my childhood. As any Moroccan my grandmother told me some bedtime stories, however, I was the class joker I was the one who would make some jokes in the middle of the lesson or say some thing that would catch everyone out of guard. I believe that was a start for me with storytelling.
